The moment I finished this pattern, I fell in love, from the beautiful texture of the Suzette stitch to the unique edging from the crab stitch. This took me about 2 hours to complete, so it would be a perfect afternoon project or even a gift for someone. I hope you enjoy making this potholder as much as I did! I would love to see how yours turn out so please tag me on any of my socials!
Here’s what you’ll need for today’s project:
- 3.75mm hook (Hook I used: https://amzn.to/4fZGHT8)
- Weight 4 cotton yarn (I used Hobby Lobby’s ‘I love this cotton’: Cinnamon Cedar )
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Stitches you’ll need to know for this project:
- CH – Chain
- SC – Single Crochet
- DC – Double Crochet
- SKST – Skip Stitch
- RSC – Reverse Single Crochet (Also know as ‘crab stitch’)
- SLST – Slip Stitch

Let’s begin!

To make the squares, we are going to start with a ch of 22

R1 – Sc in the 2nd ch from hook, place a double crochet in the same chain. *Skip a ch., sc and dc in the following chain* Continue repeating ** until you have only two remaining chains left.

For the last two chains, skip one and sc in the last. This is the end of row 1.

R2 – Ch 1 and turn, sc and dc in the first st. Skst, sc and dc in the next. Continue doing this until you have 2 remaining sts. Skip 1 and sc in the last st.
Continue repeating row 2 for 25 more rows, you’ll end with a total of 27 rows. Don’t tie off on the second square.

Connecting the Squares

For the border, we will be doing the crab stitch, which is a single crochet done backwards. To do this you’ll line your squares up and chain 1. Take your hook and slide it into the stich behind your chain, make sure you go through both squares. Wrap your hook and pull through the squares; you’ll have two loops on your hook. Wrap your hook again and pull through the last two. Continue doing this until you reach your first corner.

In the corner place 3 crab stitches, this will make it curve around the square without losing the texture of the stitch.

Continue on down the side, you’ll have 2 more corners to do so don’t forget about those!

Once you finish your border and gget back to where you started, make a slip stitch into the first crab stitch. Tie off and weave in your ends!
Congrats on finishing your potholder! I hope you enjoyed this pattern!
