First Month as a Crochet Blogger: Income, Traffic & Lessons Learned

Ever wonder if you can actually make money from a crochet blog or selling patterns online? For years I have wondered this and I decided to give it a real shot (4th time’s a charm, right?), and in this post, I’m sharing how my first month went—what I made, what I did, and what I learned. This is my first official income report, and I’m being super open about everything. I hope this gives you a realistic look at what the first month can look like!

4th Times a Charm?

Yes, this is my fourth time starting this blog, with this name, and same niche. The times before, something always managed to come up or I would get in my head about how it had to be perfect and nothing I did was perfect enough, so I just wouldn’t post. This cycle repeated with every blog I started. At the beginning of this year I started having some medical issues and my dreams started to slowly fade. I didn’t feel like I could maintain my business anymore and the thought of actually succeeding online seemed far-fetched.

I stopped doing markets, teaching crochet and even crocheting all together. No matter what I made, I couldn’t finish the project and I definitely didn’t enjoy the process. I thought it was the end of Sassy Stitches and to be honest, I was okay with it.

One night, I got an itch and I wanted to see for one last time if it truly wasn’t possible for me to blog and earn from it. I mean, everyone else was doing it, so why can’t I? I logged into my old hosting site and tried to get back my site after shutting it down a few months prior, and shockingly, I was about 4 days from completely losing everything. Domain, website, hosting profile, it would’ve been all gone had I not gotten that itch.

Once I got everything set back up and running smoothly, it was on to making posts!

Content type

If this is your first introduction to my blog, hello! Here on Sassy Stitches Crochet, I post paid and free patterns, tutorials, and my journey with different projects.

Patterns definitely spike my engagement, but tutorials don’t do too badly themselves. I prefer making pattern type content however it takes 1-2 weeks to get a pattern finished and that’s untested. With that in mind I’m in the process of figuring out what other content does well.

Goals

When I started my blog a month ago, I had my goals set pretty low due to previous experience and from what others had said, and even with those goals I didn’t think I would reach them. However I was pleasantly surprised.

My orginal goals:

  • Get 500 page views
  • Sell 1 pattern
grey and black pen on calendar book

That’s it, nothing fancy, I didn’t want to disappoint myself by setting goals too high. Truly that was the best thing for me.

Where am I getting my income from? Well I have mutiple streams that all come together in one place:

  • Ravelry
  • Etsy
  • AdSense

These three are currently all I have set up. I plan to do more places in the future (like Youtube), but for now, this is plenty. Especially with maintaining my website, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Pinterest. Okay, no more rambling! Let’s get on to the good news!

July’s Income Report

My first goal was to get 500 page views, and to my disbelief, I blew that out of the park, Sassy Stitches got a total of: 772 Page views!!!!

But not only that, I also made $0.71 on Google AdSense!!! I literally can’t believe I made money on my website, it came as a huge surprise, and I’m so happy, so thankful. I know to some that’s not a lot, but for me? That’s a huge achievement, and I couldn’t be prouder.

My second goal was to sell 1 pattern and guess what! I did just that! I made my first pattern sale on Ravelry with my: https://www.sassystitchescrochet.com/tag/mini-whale-amigurumi/

So everything combined I made a total of $2.63 in July.

After everything, I feel a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, and I can’t wait to see where this takes me. I hope you’ll stay along with me for this journey, and hopefully it’ll inspire your very own journey.

See you in the next post!
