What you’ll need to make today’s square

  • Weight 4 acrylic yarn (I use ‘I love this yarn’ from hobby lobby)
  • 6mm crochet hook (this is the set I use https://amzn.to/3uNYwBm )
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Tape measure

Pattern for those who already know the stitch

R1- Ch 20, sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, dc in the next. Keep alternating between sc and dc until your last st. Your last should be a sc. (19)

R2-19 – For the remainder of these rows, you’ll start with the opposite of what you end with. So if you end with a sc, you’ll start with a dc and vice versa. For row 2, ch 2 and dc in the first st, sc in the next, and repeat for the remaining stitches.

Congrats on finishing your square! I hope to see you in the next stitch tutorial.

And now for my beginners! Let’s get started!

First chain 20 sts (20)

Find the 2nd chain from your hook and place a single crochet, then in the next stitch place a double crochet. If you need a refresher on how to do a single crochet or a double crochet I will link my tutorials: https://www.sassystitchescrochet.com/single-crochet-part-1/ and https://www.sassystitchescrochet.com/how-to-crochet-a-double-crochet-stitch-beginners-step-by-step-guide/

Single crochet in your next stitch and then double crochet in the following. Continue repeating till the end of your row.

You should’ve ended with a single crochet. (19)

With the lemon peel stitch, you’ll begin with the single crochet and in your next row, you’ll begin with a double crochet. Alternating which one you start with will give your project the beautiful texture that the lemon peel stitch is known for.

To start your next row, ch 2. This row you’ll start with a double crochet, and place a single crochet in the next. Keep alternating until you finish your row. (19)

Great job completing your 2nd row, now keep repeating row 1 and 2 until you have a total of 19 rows!

Tie off and weave in your ends!

Awesome job completing your square! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and I can’t wait to see you in the next one.
