How it began

For years my friend and I talked about how it would be so cool to make a crochet dress that was super fancy but also difficult and intercut. I have finally decided to sit down and start creating this masterpiece and I want to take you all along with me for the ride.

Originally when we first started talking about this dress I was going to use a cotton blend and I believe it was a weight #3. After getting the yarn and messing with it I decided it wouldn’t meet my expectations so instead I continued looking. It wasn’t until after I started micro crocheting that I realized I could use thread. I found this really pretty thread that is a tad thicker than embroidery thread and have since decided that’s what I’m going to use.

Stitches I’m going to use

For the corset portion it will be a combination of single crochets and slip stitches, since I want this to be as realistic as and useable as possible I’m going to be using a corset sewing pattern to make the crochet shapes and then I plan to sew it together.

This is the pattern I’m using: https://shorturl.at/2lEu6

For the arms and skirt I want to use a more flowy stitch, I will most likely use a lace stitch. I’m thinking either the crown stitch or lacy aligned lotus stitch. My friend gave me free rain on what stitches to use.

For any of the solid parts like the chest or borders I will most likely use the suzette stitch, I have always found this one to be incredibly elegant and flexible.

The Design

As for the design, the dress will be full length with an underskirt of purple. There will be one slit going to the thigh on one side. The corset will be tie-able on the back and I’m still deciding what the back design will look like. I have first designed it bare however after years of contemplation I thought of maybe adding a spider web? However that design may look cheap at the end.

The sleeve are going to be bell sleeves with the same lace as the skirt and the top will be a halter design that has a collar.

Basically everything will be black except for the underskirt which will be purple.

Process

I will first start with the corset as it’ll be the hardest and most time consuming. I hope to have it finished at the end of the month if all goes well.

I will try to keep you guys updated as I go, my plan was to update weekly but with how much time it’s been taking I may not have enough to to update that frequently.
